For poetics off the page; a misunderstood subject.

Lobster Rolls: Maine Crack

I have spent over $30 on lobster rolls this past weekend.
On Jan. 17th 2008, my friend Rich Barton and I ate the last 2 lobster rolls that Damons (an old sandwich shop) would serve for months. Before we could even sit down they took the "lobster roll" sign off the menu.
After seeing lobsters for sale in an Augusta Maine parking lot Friday afternoon I phoned Damons to see if they had lobster roll yet, this season. They said "Not yet." So, I called the Senator Inn and ordered a lobster club.
Not the same.

Saturday, when I called Damons, I was extremely happy to learn they had lobstah rolls! I ordered a lobster platter and ate it on my desk at work.

/Hobo sign for lobster and vice versa/ On the way to work I couldn't help but to order another lobster roll. I mean, I don't really have the money to be eating lobster rolls, but they are awesome! People become economically trapped in Maine this way.

Karate Lobster

Before work today I saw a pickup full of fresh lobsters for $8 a piece. One of the lobster traders told me how I should cook them.
"Get a nice pan. ... Put a little water in the bottom. ... (A Mainer mentions 'beer' from the other side of the truck.) ... Throw them in there about 8 minutes. ... These little legs will fall off when they're done."
I wonder what lobster and soy sauce tastes like?

Vend-o-Mat Burger

I am an American, and when I get hungry I want to eat something American.

I walk down a hall in the American building I work in, to the vend-o-mat machine. (What war was this magnificent technology a product of?)

Only $1.75 and a 1-minute microwave ride.

Viola! America on a paper plate! A beautiful bacon cheeseburger, don't forget the ketchup packets.

Spring Planting

Planting sunflowers for an unofficial beautify your neighborhood project. My neighbor Donna plants some sunflowers with a shovel borrowed from my neighbor Pete.

Java Joe's

Java Joe's is a coffee shop on Water Street in Augusta Maine. They have decent food and good coffee. They close at 3 p.m.
I often overhear people say that it is one of their favorite spots in Augusta Maine, too.

To Dysart's Truckstop

Matt Stone checking the menu at Dysart's Truckstop.

Feed an Army? Dysart's is so good people from different eras come to sit at the tables and eat homemade corned beef hash and Maine blueberry pancakes. "Dave's Favorite" is my favorite.

Sorting out the regimental seating. Today the 20th Maine has an easier time feeding and seating the regiment, easier at Dysart's than a barn or a family farmhouse.

20th ME Co B The men and women of a Civil War reenactment company stop into Dysart's Truckstop to get a good meal after a funeral ceremony for a reenactor who spent her life portraying Chamberlain's mother, said Malta Lee Phelps of Joshua's Angels, the women's side of these hyper-real historians.
